The Illustration Friday word of the week is proverb.
The term may be a little old-fashioned, but everyone has encountered the proverb. That annoying saying your family repeats whenever something goes wrong is a sort of proverb. The Aesop’s Fables you’ve read to your children contain proverbs in abundance. They’re found, too, in the New Age literature that somebody, somewhere is making a lot of money from. And, yes, they are those Biblical phrases you had to memorize when you were twelve. Proverbs are also our favorite quotes, and the gentle reminders about Life that we give ourselves. Proverbs are the Cliff Notes of wisdom.
My current favorite: “If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.” (Cowboy Wisdom)
“The Messenger” (casein, wax on clayboard)

This is one of my favorites! The colors are superb.
I finally took myself to the Eric Carle Museum and saw Lisbeth’s work. Oh-my-goodness, it was breathtaking!
I just wish I could have enjoyed them without screaming children in abundance.
Ah well, the museum is for the children and the child still in us
Hi Susan. I agree with you, as always. Also many times these Proverbs which are said every day, are difficult factual verification.
or just serve to make us not feel so fool when another is doing better. Something like “Better a bird in the hand, a hundred flying” Ahhh … thank you very much. I took the consolation prize. ja ja. (Not saying it’s important to win, eh. What happens is that I have a strange idea about the awards, for me, should not exist. I think the awards do not improve the work, only improve the ego) (maybe I am wrong) (clarify that I have received awards, eh I do not speak out of envy)
Your proverb I found very good, it’s true. is a saying very positive.
Well, I do not forget your painting. excellent, as always.
Heisann!
Fascinating, both the text and the illustration. I like the
hazy atmosphere… ;:OD)
Hi Susan! Well, there’s something different about this work… I love the expressive brush strokes! As always, your art and words leave a momentarily pause for the brain to digest everything in! Hahahaa…
Wonderful work, Susan! oxx
Oh yes very soft and enigmatic. It’s good that you are working in casein. Is it your comfort zone or outside of. It gives a lovely softness – or is that the wax?
That should read ‘in your comfort zone, or outside of”
Lovely piece – very ethereal! I missed your dessert last week and enjoyed it just now! You are accomplished in many different media!
