The Illustration Friday word of the week is tall.
I live in the middle of a small clearing (translation: logged) in the middle of a forest of very tall pines, cedars, madrones and oaks. I love the sound of the wind blowing through them, but not the perpetual feeling of being surrounded (translation: trapped, stuck, pinned down). Daylight is shorter here too. Generally speaking, a bit oppressive. So I can well imagine how this little tree might feeling…
Perhaps if I was more a bit more relaxed, I would feel sheltered instead? Hmmm.

“Life in the City” (watercolor, pen & ink, colored pencil)

Hi, Susan, it’s always a pleasure to see your art!!
))))))))
have a good week!
oh, congratulations for sale on Etsy!
congratulations on your sale!
I think this tree / city piece is wonderful.
It reminds me of Joni Mitchell’s song: Paved paridise and put up a parking lot
if you have time or inclination to answer, i have a question… if you were traveling for two weeks… what art supplies would you take?
Wonderful image! Well, sad really, but a great idea and great representation of the way life feels from time to time!
Congratulations on the sale!
Nice illustration – definitely sheltered rather than trapped
Maybe you’d feel more sheltered if the buildings weren’t leaning in they way they are? Or, maybe that trapped feeling is the moment before breaking free and doing something exciting and new? Congrats on your sale! Wishing you many more in the future. I like that piece. Somebody has got to be very happy to be living with it
Wooo-hooo on the Etsy sale!! Smart buyer/collector
I love this piece. I’ve always been a fan of rooftop gardens in cold, impersonal cities. This illustration is so somber in color and content. The colors are perfect including the sky. You’re a genius!
I have to check back to see if I’ve ever answered your last email. Sadly, I have to get to them on days off which are few and far between. I’ll go back to it today!
have a wonderful weekend!

I love the colours and contrast in the painting, and how that little tree still manages to get some sunshine. Living in a clearing in the middle of a forest sounds rather magical, but I guess I’d have to actually live there to know. Congrats on the sale!
I love cityscapes! This one is magical!
I don’t know. I think I would feel oppressed too. I like a little bit of openness. A horizon. I really like the angles of the buildings, and their grays, in contrast with the green of the tree.
