The Illustration Friday word of the week is new.
This vintage oil painting and a favorite poem by the Spanish poet, Antonio Machado, seemed like the perfect way to wrap up 2012 and welcome in a more hopeful New Year. Best wishes to you all, and thank you so much for your own inspiring art and wonderful posts, your blog visits here and your lovely comments this past year!
Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt—marvelous error!—
that a spring was breaking
out in my heart.
I said: Along which secret aqueduct,
Oh water, are you coming to me,
water of a new life
that I have never drunk?Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt—marvelous error!—
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt—marvelous error!—
that a fiery sun was giving
light inside my heart.
It was fiery because I felt
warmth as from a hearth,
and sun because it gave light
and brought tears to my eyes.Last night as I slept,
I dreamt—marvelous error!—
that it was God I had
here inside my heart.

Linda and Indigene, I have *really* enjoyed my artistic and womanly friendships with both of you strong ladies since my blog began. It’s wonderful to know you’re out there, and I do so appreciate your thoughtful comments and artistic applause. I admire you and your works so much: we are a small mutual-appreciation society…a vital support system in today’s world, I think!

Susan, how happy I am to finally spend some time perusing your lovely artwork and writing! I’ve been a bit remiss on my blog visits, but plan to be visiting much more often! I love this piece…those bees are just the perfect touch) and I really enjoyed your recent writing about your grandparents. Such an evocative bit of writing…I could see them so clearly! Wishing you an amazing 2013.
Sarah, thank you for reminding me that my ‘old’ posts are not dead and forgotten…and for appreciating them too. It’s so easy to get lost in the digital onslaught, and as a reader, overwhelmed by it all too. Best wishes to you for 2013 too!
I love this – it literally jumped off the Illustration Friday page and smacked me in the face. (In a good way!) All of the contrasting colors and the fantastic shapes made by the body and how it interacts with the flowers.
Fantastic!
beautiful painting!
Thank you so much, Melissa and Josh!
Hi Susan
always to see your art is wonderful, especially if it is accompanied by a poem by Antonio Machado. Some of them have been set to music by the Catalan musician Joan Manuel Serrat, I do not know if you know)
Ok. I wanted to say I wish you a happy new year!
and 2013, surrounded by creative ideas, as always!!!!!!!!!!
Wishing you a happy and inspiring 2013.
